Gotta do whatcha gotta do

Hello my dear friends and family members,

This past week was definitely a memorable one.  I shall start with last Monday, a preparation day.  In Kecskemét, literally the only elevation is the sewage gutters on the sides of the streets, which is what led the people of Kecskemét to create the only hill in the city, the Domb (Domb means hill in Hungarian).  When they piled all of this earth onto this Domb, the ended up making a giant ditch next to the domb, which they filled with water and made into a lake, also a rarity in Kecskemét.  We decided to hike the said domb, and found a lone tree on the top which we climbed and took pictures in.  Then we went and got ice cream.  Later that night, Allred elder and I went to a very nice man's very dirty apartment to help him clean and do some rearranging of his furniture.  It devolved into me throwing books down to Allred elder from the second floor indoor balcony, while the moustached man sat on the bed and kept spanking my bum with a ruler and laughed.  I don't know why this was funny.

The next day Elder Allred and I had a lot of teachings, one with Enikő (one of our baptismal dates),  the other with Irma, a very kind member who fed us lunch and then critiqued us as we taught her a Restoration lesson (we asked her to), and then we met with Regina, a recent convert who is very into Nuskin, with her boyfriend Jani, who is also really into Nuskin, and then later that night we met with our other investigator on baptismal date Gábor, who found the church through Nuskin. So.  I am still kind of confused what Nuskin actually is but hey, if might actually get into it when I eventually return home.  I might be sold.

On Wednesday, we headed over to Szolnok for probably the last time (Elder Howard is almost fully functioning again), but all of their investigators didn't want to meet onthat day, so we just ended up streeting. On Thursday we had District meeting, English class, and for MCM our MCM leader took us all to dinner for pizza!  He is awesome.  On Friday we had Zone Conference in Budapest, and we learned about the Church's Self reliance program, which we have been instructed that all of us missionaries are going to do , and after 12 weeks or something like that we are going to get a... wait for it... certificate!

We also learned how to do some family history finding with the white board. We would write a provocative question on the board like, "do you know your great-grandfather's name?" and then start talking to people like that.  Elder Bagozzi, (he and sister bagozzi are the offfice couple) committed us to whiteboard everyday for the next two and a half months. Some sisters who he previously committed apparently called him up and were like, "elder bagozi i don't knoe if we're going to be able to white board today because we have 4 lessons and a service project" he said, "Sisters, I cannot micromanage you If youre going to a service project, fine! take the board! Someone's gonna ask, 'What's this board doing here?'"  He was filled with a passionate fire for this finding approach when he presented it to us. The Zone Leaders headed back to Kecskemét with us so that we could begin our splits later that day. I went with Elder Smith, and we headed to the branch house so that Elder SMith could give Enikő her baptismal interview. It went wonderfully!!! She passed with flying colors.  Her baptism with be on October 6th.

The next day we met withour investigator, Horváth László, at a resting home.  He's a little crazy, but loves meeting and actually comes to church every week.  We had a great plan of salvation lesson with him.  Then later that day he called us and told us that he was walking in the arboretum and saw some planes flying in the sky and he was afraid that Hungary was preparing for war with Amerika so he can no longer associate with American citizens... that means us.  But he still came to Church and was super nice to us.  I'm thinking that this phase will pass.  This isnt the first time he's done something like this.  Unless there is some sort of military action im not aware of?

The next day at church, a man that elder allred and i streeted came!  He is an interesting fellow. His name is Göbiös János Attlia, and he road his snowbard to church. That's right, his snowboard, He actually rides it all around town.  It has wheels no the bottom, and riens used for horse-and-buggy attached so he can steer it around.  He stayed for all three hours though, and later that day we set up with him.  We got about half way through the restoration before we had to end up going.  But he is now our new investigator.  All and interesting tidbit, he calls himself the eső csináló, which literally means, "rain maker".  For example, while we were sitting on the bench with him a woman from english class came up to us and told us that she was sorry that she couldn't make it to english class last week, because it was raining really hard and cold.  Then our investigator János Attila asked forgiveness from her, because he was the one who made it rain.  hmm! in any case, he is going to be an awesome investigator.

We went over how to have more effective studies in district meeting, and i resolved to keep a study journal EVERY DAY.  I've really seen how the Lord helps me remember and learn a lot more when i keep a constant journal and when i write down what I learned.

Well I am really excited for general conference and I love being a missionary!

Love you all,
Elder Martin
